
This festival is held when the approximately
150 somei yoshino variety of cherry trees
that line the banks of the Iwasaki River
for about 500 meters are in full bloom. It
is only during this season that paper lanterns,
called bonbori, are lit to allow for nighttime
cherry blossom viewing.

April; the bonbori paper lanterns are lit
from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The major attraction is the processional
leading to the castle grounds by the lord
and princess of the castle. The role of the
princess is played by the city's poster girl.
Other events include a demonstration of the
folk performing art known as omanto (omanto),
stage shows, a lottery, and an outdoor tea
ceremony.

Over one thousand fireworks are utilized
for the starmine and set piece fireworks
displays staged during this festival. A bazaar
that is also held near the festival headquarters.

Agricultural products and industrial goods
produced in Nissin City are on display
as well as offered for sale. The fair also
features stage shows and various do-it-yourself
activities. Along with the very popular flea
market and performances by local talent,
the fair encourages participation by those
in attendance. A cultural festival and a
health fair are also held in conjunction
with this event which attracts a large number
of visitors. In addition, products from the
sister cities of Kiso Village, Nagano Prefecture
and Ago Town, Mie Prefecture are offered
for sale.

as well as offering a book cover service.

Children and adults alike can enjoy participating
in eleven sporting activities such as "Struckout,"
"basketball freethrows," etc. It's
a great opportunity to get some exercise.
An athletic competition is also held in conjuction

This festival seeks to inform people about
health and welfare issues and calls for the
active participation of the citizens of Nissin to
create a city that looks after the well-being
of its residents. By featuring booths on
nursing care, health education, and volunteerism,
it is hoped that the festival will increase
awareness and understanding as well as cooperation
concerning health and welfare services.
The festival features exhibits from the various
groups within the Nissin City Cultural
Association, such as flower arranging, calligraphy,
handicrafts, literary arts, photography,
the fine arts, etc. On Sunday, there is a
joint performance of various performing arts,
Japanese popular songs, and choral singing.
In addition, there are lectures on igo and
shogi (Japanese chess) and a do-it-yourself
arts corner. Visitors can also take part
in a tea ceremony.
